Addleshaw Goddard has received the regulatory approval to open in Hong Kong and has named private equity head Andrew Carpenter to international managing partner.
The Hong Kong office, to be launched later this month, will be initially led by the firm’s private equity head Andrew Carpenter and international arbitration partner Jonathan Tattersall. It will be the firm’s second base in Asia, following the Singapore launch a year ago (2 April 2012).
Both partners will be based in Hong Kong part time and will spend time in the new office building closer links with the business community in Greater China. It is understood that the firm is recruiting lawyers and staff on the ground for the new office.
The past 12 months have seen Addleshaws pushing ahead with international expansion. The number of international offices rises to four following the Hong Kong opening. The firm has named Carpenter as the leader for the newly created international division. Head of corporate in its Leeds office, Yunus Seedat, will succeed Carpenter as the new head of private equity.
Addleshaws managing partner Paul Devitt noted in a statement that the need for a new division is a measure of the firm’s recent progress, as well as its future ambitions.
The international division consists of the teams based full-time in its non-UK offices, together with a number of partners who will be given responsibilities in the international division as well as in their existing division.
