Washington DC firm Arnold & Porter is boosting its tax and real estate practices with a partner from local rival Steptoe & Johnson.
Blake Rubin specialises in tax issues affecting property transactions. He will be a member of the tax department but will also work with partners in the real estate practice and the corporate groups.
Rubin says he was attracted to the post by the stronger transactional focus at Arnold & Porter.
Rubin says: "I act for a number of publicly traded companies in the real estate industry and some large privately owned companies. Many want the same firm to handle the corporate and real estate issues of their transactions rather than just the tax."
Steptoe & Johnson, which is about to open in London through a merger with City firm Rakisons (The Lawyer, 31 July), specialises in international trade work, telecoms and technology, corporate, competition, and international litigation and arbitration.
Rubin's clients include Interstate Hotels Corporation and Legacy Partners.
