New legal regulator’s membership revealedIrwin Mitchell senior partner Michael Napier QC and former Reuters general counsel Rosemary Martin are among the first members of the newly appointed Legal Services Board (LSB).


Set up under the Legal Services Act to serve as the overarching regulator for the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority and the Bar ­Standards Board, the nine-member LSB will have the right to strip those bodies of their powers.

Chosen from more than 300 applicants, it is expected to cost £3.9m to set up and is due to be fully operational by spring 2010. Members will sit for three years from September and will receive a £15,000 salary for an estimated 30 days’ work a year.

Other members of the LSB include Financial ­Services Authority general counsel Andrew Whittaker, Matrix Chambers barrister David Wolfe, and Nicole Smith, panel chair of the Judicial Appointments Commission.
