Solicitors in Ireland have been appointed as judges for the first time after decades of campaigning. Three solicitors have been chosen in this year's round of judicial appointments: Michael White, of Michael D White & Co, Frank O'Donnell, of Bell Branigan O'Donnell & O'Brien, and John Buckley, of Beauchamps. The Law Society welcomed the appointments and said it looked forward to the day when the majority of judges were solicitors to reflect that 80 per cent of lawyers are solicitors.
