The development of in-house legal practice in the accession countries is high on the agenda of the newly appointed president of the European Company Lawyers Association (ECLA).
Colin Anderson, the legal manager of Standard Life’s legal life services department, has just been elected as the new president of the organisation, replacing Danish lawyer Erik Vilen.
Anderson, who served as the Scottish representative on the ECLA board and the vice-president since May 2001, will be in his new post for a three-year term. He will be joined by two vice presidents – ECLA Czech board member Petr Smelhaus and Belgian board member Jettie Van Caenegem, who will continue her tenure.
“[ECLA] is an important organisation that draws on international experiences and offers unique networking opportunities,” said Anderson.
“I am particularly earnest about our work in developing in-house legal practice in the accession countries of Europe, where we have recently assisted the national associations of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland and Bulgaria.”
ECLA is the confederation of the national association of company lawyers in Europe and represents almost 31,000 members in 17 countries.
