New Court Chambers tenants move on

The first of the remaining tenants at George Carman QC's dissolving New Court Chambers have found new homes.

As The Lawyer exclusively revealed on its website, www.thelawyer.co.uk (24 January), Carman's set will cease to exist on 20 April.

After a spate of senior tenants quit the set last year the chambers took the decision to dissolve, leaving 24 tenants and the clerking team to search for new homes.

Two of those tenants have secured new tenancies and further announcements are expected imminently.

Professional negligence expert Thomas Grant is to join commercial chancery set 9 Old Square, one of the leading sets in Grant's field. One third of its practice is in professional negligence.

Adam Korn, a clinical negligence and PI barrister, joins 9 Bedford Row today (Monday).

This brings the set to 51 tenants and follows a number of new signings, including Gordon Aspden who was poached from 36 Bedford Row in November.

Carman himself takes up his new tenancy at 4-5 Gray's Inn today (Monday), which has yet to finalise its merger with Monckton Chambers.

Talks have continued all week and a further chambers meeting is taking place early today.
