CITY law firm Stephenson Harwood has appointed a new chief executive for the first time in seven years.

John Pike, a partner at Stephenson Harwood since 1985, will be taking over from William Corbett on 1 May. Corbett will return to practising tax law full time.

Pike joined the firm in 1983 and has specialised in property development and institutional investment for both UK and overseas institutions. As part of the management committee he was involved in the restructuring of the management and organisation of the firm four years ago.

Pike said: “Two years ago William Corbett led the firm in the decision to concentrate on offering expertise in selected practice areas. This strategy has paid off and I have every intention of continuing with it.”

Pike's appointment coincides with that of David Slade as senior partner at Stephenson Harwood. Slade, head of the shipping department, will also take up his new position in May.
