Leading public sector firm Nabarro Nathanson has been named in the Department of Education and Employment's (DfEE's) list of providers and consultants.
The firm is among those chosen by School Standards Minister Estelle Morris to deal with issues arising from an increasing number of local authority interventions in-volving failing and under-achieving schools.
The School Standards and Framework Act 1998 gives the Government power to intervene in cases where a local education authority (LEA)is seen to be carrying out its educational duties inadequately. So far, 13 LEAs across the UK have been affected.
Nabarros will advise LEAs and the DfEE on a variety of issues, including the preparation and implementation of statutory plans and providing pupil welfare services and special education needs services.
Partner and head of the firm's public sector group Malcolm Iley says: "Nabarro Nathanson has been advising schools, colleges and universities for many years. It has seen rapid growth in advice given in relation to the governance of private finance initiative and public/private partnerships in this field, and the implementation of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998."
The DfEE advertised nationally for service providers in February.
