Nabarro, Hunton & Hosseini
Those that have recently been promoted to the partnership must be letting out a sigh of relief. For it will have been a tough year.
Nabarro's Marie Scott, the only one of the five new partners to have trained at the firm, says she wondered whether her chances had gone pear-shaped when the credit crunch hit.
"It crossed my mind that it might be one reason not to make me up. But we're a full-service firm, so that would have been short-sighted," she said.
Hunton & William's Dearbhla Quigley, the AIM specialist promoted in London, described the experience as "stressful".
Getting promoted involved enduring a 'roadshow in the US getting my face out to the partners', she says, followed by a meeting with a 40-strong executive committee.
But with partnership under their belt, the weekend was a chance for Scott, Quigley and all the other new partners to finally put their feet up at last.
Hunton's new partner said last week that she planned to unwind with a copy of the "The Kite Runner", the bestseller set in Afghanistan by Khaled Hosseini.
"A little bit behind everybody else," she adds, but then who can blame her after a US campaign trail that would put Barack and Hillary to shame.
Quizzed on her interests outside the law, Marie Scott at Nabarro says she too is a fan of fiction. And on her bedside table at the moment? A book set in Afghanistan called "The Kite Runner".
