Music industry association IFPI has ended its year-long search for a general counsel, promoting litigation head Jo Oliver to the top job.
The position had been vacant since April last year, after former general counsel Geoff Taylor joined associated music industry group BPI as chief executive.
A spokesperson for IFPI said that the legal group had functioned without a general counsel for a year.
Oliver has headed IFPI’s litigation department since October 2006 and was responsible for the organisation’s global litigation programme against music piracy.
In her new role she will take responsibility for the organisation’s litigation, regulatory and corporate legal affairs and report to IFPI chairman and chief executive John Kennedy.
Kennedy said: “Jo is an outstanding lawyer and strategist, as well as a natural team-leader who has already proved her worth to the international recording industry.”
