Muckle donates 1 per cent of profit to charity" />Newcastle firm Muckle is celebrating its sixth year of distributing 1 per cent of total firm profit to charity.

This money, which amounts to circa £50,000 a year, supports a range of local causes picked by an independent committee with input from the staff and partners.

The programme was the brainchild of senior partner Hugh Welch (pictured). Welch said: "If every law firm made the contribution we made it would make a better and fairer society.

"We are only a North East firm and we are highly successful but I believe we can't be successful in isolation from the broader North East community - many partners like myself were brought up here."

The committee does not support national charities but tends to pick small local ones, Welch continued.

“"We're keen on supporting the projects that are working in the hard done by areas of the North East - there's still too much poverty up here, too much deprivation for the 21st century”.
