Simon Holmes has become head of the EU, competition and regulatory practice at SJ Berwin. His promotion from a similar position in the London practice follows Stephen Kon’s appointment to senior partner.

Goodman Derrick has hired competition lawyer Stephen Hornsby as a litigation partner from Davenport Lyons, where he was a partner.
Matthew Cole has joined Shearman & Sterling’s English law equity capital markets team as a senior associate. He was previously a senior associate at Ashurst.
Stone King has snapped up consultant Geoffrey Davies and education lawyer Ciara Campfield for its education team, from Lewis Silkin’s academies practice.
Three associates have been promoted to the partnership at Finers Stephens Innocent. John Annetts in private client, Louise Eldridge in corporate commercial and Lois Langton in family have all made the step up.

has boosted its personal injury and medical negligence group with the hire of industrial disease claims partner Caroline Pinfold from Irwin Mitchell.
City law firm Speechly Bircham has strengthened its IP, technology and data group with the hire of Robin Lightner Maisashvili as a partner from US firm Baker Botts.
UK IT and digital media firm Kemp Little has promoted Andrew Joint and Jeremy Harris to partner. Joint becomes an equity partner in the commercial technology practice and Harris a fixed-share partner in the IP litigation practice.
South East
Cripps Harries Hall has promoted seven solicitors to associate. In the corporate division, the new associates are Camilla Beamish and Rhona Darbyshire (employment), and Joanna Ford (commercial dispute resolution). Real estate promotions include Richard Housley (property dispute resolution), Michelle Parr (portfolio property) and Steve Ellis (development). The private client division promoted Kate Arnold.
South West
IP lawyer Sian Bussy and M&A partner Paul Stone are the latest partner hires at Bristol-based Temple Bright. Bussy joins from Veale Wasbrough Vizards in Bristol, where she was an associate, and Stone joins from Bond Pearce, where he was a partner.
lPrivate client firm Wilsons has appointed new member James Aspden to the LLP, promoted two partners – Fiona Campbell-White and Torsten White – and made
Ann Cory and Dinah Close senior associates.

Nottingham’s Rothera Dowson has promoted solicitors Beth
Jinks (personal injury), Suzanne McAuley (private client) and chartered legal executive Karen Hayward (private client) to associate.

Solicitor Christine Johnston
has joined the employment and pension team at Morgan Cole.
She was previously a solicitor at Bevan Brittan.
North West
Senior construction lawyers Andrew Rimmer and Emma Judge have joined the new North West office of Darbys. Both were formerly partners in Pannone’s construction team and more recently worked at consultancy Systech.

The Paris office of McDermott Will & Emery has appointed Sabine Naugès as a partner in its public law and competition law team. She joins as head of the regulatory practice group from the Paris office of Weil Gotshal & Manges, where she was a counsel.
US
Debevoise & Plimpton has named three new partners in its New York office. Michael Diz has been promoted in the corporate department, Andrew Levine focuses on white-collar criminal defence in the litigation department and litigation partner Dietmar Prager rises to partner.
Davis Polk & Wardwell has hired White House official Kim Harris as a partner in its New York litigation team. Harris served as principal deputy White House counsel to the president.
Former Merck & Co vice-president and associate general counsel John Sander has joined Jackson Lewis in New York as a partner.
Charley Moore, an oil and gas litigator, regulatory practitioner and former general counsel at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, has joined Morgan Lewis in Houston as a partner.
Middle East
The Doha office of K&L Gates has added Amjad Hussain as a partner in its corporate and finance practices. He joins from Eversheds, where he managed operations at the firm’s Doha office.
Australasia
HWL Ebsworth has appointed Mark Howard as a partner in its Melbourne workplace and safety practice, to head the team. He joins from Middletons, where he was also a partner.
Clifford Chance has relocated finance counsel Philip Sealey from Paris and senior associate Mark Gillgren from London to its Perth office, to boost its finance practice.
In-house
National energy-efficiency company Anesco has appointed Jeremy Cross as head of legal.
He joins from Greenberg Traurig Maher, where he specialised in green energy projects.
