MOVE OF THE WEEK
Michiel Wurfbain has joined Simmons & Simmons as corporate partner in the Amsterdam office. Prior to this, he was a senior associate at Dutch firm Stibbe.
• Eversheds has hired real estate litigation partner William Densham from Linklaters, where he was a managing associate.
• Lovells has snared Norton Rose Italian head of litigation and arbitration Cristina Pagni. She joins as a partner in the Milan office.
• Elizabeth France has been appointed by the Legal Services Board as chair of the Office for Legal Complaints. She had been the chief ombudsman and chief executive of the Ombudsman Services since October 2002.
• Reynolds Porter Chamberlain has hired Steven Francis as a partner in the regulatory practice. He was previously a director at the Financial Services Authority.
• US firm Hunton & Williams has appointed Dr Michael Rosenthal as managing partner of the Brussels office. He is also European head of the competition law group.
• Inderpal Lali has joined outsourcing specialists CPA as a solicitor in the European legal process outsourcing division. He was previously legal counsel at the Computer Sciences Corporation in Surrey.
• Lord Justice Thomas has been made vice president of the Queen’s Bench Division and Deputy Head of Criminal Justice.
• Company and regulatory lawyer Benoit Le Bars has joined Hammonds Hausmann, the Paris office of Hammonds, as a partner. He was previously at Landwell & Associés, where he was a director.
• London-based Jeffrey Green Russell has hired three lawyers to run two new sector teams. Solicitor Alexandre Terrasse joins from John Collis Solicitors and will head the French desk, while partners Justin Stephenson and Leighton Lloyd, from Howard Kennedy, will set up the media finance department.
• David Salter, joint national head of family law at Mills & Reeve, has been nominated as president of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers following a term as president of the European chapter.
• Howard Kennedy partner Martin Davies has been elected chairman of law firm network Lawyers Associated Worldwide, of which Howard Kennedy is a member.
• Australian firm Gilbert & Tobin has hired two new corporate partners. John Schembri, who will lead the corporate finance team, joins from Freehills, while Peter Feros, who will lead the corporate taxation team, arrives from PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
• The Serious Fraud Office has appointed Keith McCarthy as head of anti-corruption. He leaves his post at HM Revenue and Customs’ criminal investigation directorate.
• Linklaters has recruited Deutsche Bank senior counsel Professor Reinhard
Marsch-Barner to its German practice. He will work as of counsel in the corporate group.
• Memery Crystal has promoted three assistants to associate. They are Richard Green in the employment department, and James Mungovan and Kieran Stone in corporate.
• Lord Justice Hughes has been appointed vice president of the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division), with effect from 3 February 2009 upon the retirement of Lord Justice Latham.
• Leeds firm Schulmans has promoted three to partner: Stephen Fielding and Victoria Marshall in real estate and Mark Lumley in corporate.
• Amy Rogers has completed her pupillage at barristers’ set 11KBW, becoming a tenant working on employment, public, information and commercial law cases.
• DTM Legal, a newly formed specialist commercial practice based in Chester, has appointed 12 former Walker Smith Way lawyers, including former partners Anna Duffy, Richard Thomas, Julie Mogan, Jim Morris, Alison Brennan and Ed Barnes.
• Johanna Saunders has joined the Manchester office of Hill Dickinson as a corporate knowledge management lawyer. She moves from Addleshaw Goddard where she was a managing associate in the corporate group.
• Withy King has promoted four associates
to partner: Jessica Bent in technology and media, Jane Measures in clinical negligence
and Alex Pyatt in corporate. Corporate finance lawyer Simon Merrell has been promoted to associate.
• London firm Kingsley Napley has promoted Gareth Kervin to partner in the employment group.
