DLA Piper has hired seven lawyers from Deloitte for its tax practice in Poland. Marcin Matyka joins as of counsel and will head the practice; Monika Poterai and Dominika Cabai join as directors; and Wojciech Kotala, Szymon Murawski, Bartosz Matusik and Agnieszka Kobak arrive as associates.
•Former McGrigors partner Christopher Shaw has left the Scottish firm to join the London office of Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo.
•Fiona Bolton has moved to Eversheds as a partner in the London employment team. She was previously an associate at Herbert Smith.
•Olswang has extended its competition group with the appointment of partner Koen Platteau in the Brussels office. He joins from Belgian law firm Loyens & Loeff where he was head of the Brussels EU, competition and regulatory group.
•DLA Piper has further strengthened its Middle East offering with the hire of corporate partner Karl Tabbakh from Canadian firm McCarthy Tétrault. He joins the Abu Dhabi office.
•German firm Haarmann Partnerschaftsgesellschaft Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater Wirtschaftsprüfer has taken on former SJ Berwin partner Sebastian Gronstedt as a partner in the Frankfurt office. He joins the real estate group.
•DLA Piper has appointed Maricla Pennesi as partner in its Italian tax practice. She joins from Deloitte where she was a partner.
•Australian firm Blake Dawson has appointed John Carrington as managing partner, replacing John Atkin, who has stood down after six years in the role.
•Orrick Rambaud Martel has taken on Denis Fontaine-Besset as of counsel in the Paris finance group. He was previously a joint manager of asset financing and structured financing at HSBC.
•The Leicester School of Law has appointed Pablo Cortes as City Solicitors Educational Trust Lecturer. He was previously at the University of Cork writing a PhD thesis on dispute resolution in the EU.
•Personal injury partner Brian Dawson has taken over as senior partner of Cheshire-based Walker Smith Way. The role had been held by Gray Prestt since 2001.
•Yorkshire firm Last Cawthra Feather has hired three new lawyers. Commercial litigation associate Rebecca Beaumont joins from Leeds firm Smithson Hinds Morris; Jo-Ann Pattinson arrives from Australian firm De Silva Hebron; and Liz Jones joins as a trust manager from Addleshaw Goddard.
•Trudy Rogers has joined Lamb Brooks Solicitors in Basingstoke as a partner heading up the private client department. She was previously head of private client at Horsey Lightly in Newbury.
•London firm Brecher has hired Steven Ross as a partner in the commercial litigation department. He was previously an assistant at GSC Solicitors.
•Consumer organisation Which? has appointed Steve Coyle as head of Which? Legal Service, its telephone advice service for consumers. He joins after nine years at cosmetics company Avon, most recently as head of sales development for Western Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
•US firm Hogan & Hartson has hired Olga Boltenko as tax counsel from Dewey & Leboeuf where she was a senior associate. She will be based in the firm’s London office.
•Graham Harvey has joined Cumberland Ellis as an assistant in the private client department. He was previously at Godwins Solicitors in Winchester.
•Pinsent Masons has hired Howard Ridley as partner in its Manchester pensions team. He joins from Rowley Ashworth in Leeds.
•Black Country law firm George Green has appointed two new assistant solicitors who have completed their training contracts with the firm. Deborah Beal and Carrie Smith join the private client department and corporate and commercial department respectively.
•South East firm ASB Law has recruited
former Slaughter and May lawyer Angela Haywood as an assistant solicitor in the corporate department.
