SJ Berwin has boosted its finance team in London after hiring a partner from Herbert Smith. Chris Fanner joins as a partner, having held the same position at Herbert Smith. Fanner specialises in leveraged buy-outs and infrastructure finance, and counts investment banks, private equity funds and corporate borrowers among his clients. He joined Herbert Smith as a partner in 2005.

Before that, he was a partner at Denton Wilde Sapte (now SNR Denton), where he headed the leveraged finance and corporate lending practice.
Before that, Fanner trained at Clifford Chance.

Associate Rebecca Saunders has joined Jones Day’s London construction practice from Fenwick Elliott, where she was a dispute resolution and arbitration associate. The firm has also taken financial litigation partner Christopher Braithwaite from Simmons & Simmons and arbitration partner Baiju Vasani from US firm Crowell & Moring.
Winston & Strawn has hired Justin McClelland as a commercial litigation partner in its London office from Milbank, where he was an associate.
Mayer Brown has hired Andrew Block as a partner in its London pensions group from his partner role with Travers Smith. The firm has also taken trained barrister Alexandria Carr, lead legal adviser at HM Treasury on EU financial services strategy, as of counsel in its London-based financial services, regulatory and enforcement team.
Sarah Cornes has rejoined TWM as a partner in its family team after leaving Howell Jones, where she was head of the family team.
Manches has added Jon Bartley to its London office as a commercial partner from Shoosmiths, where he was co-manager of the commercial team. The Thames Valley office of Manches has hired new associate Bill Smith to its employment team from Bond Pearce, where he was a solicitor.
Wallace has hired Benjamin James as a partner and IP/voluntary sector head from Bircham Dyson Bell, where he was a partner.
Former Allen & Overy senior associate Lisa O’Neill has joined the corporate practice in Berwin Leighton Paisner’s London office as an M&A partner.
Former Squire Sanders senior associate Rose Carey has joined Speechly Bircham’s London office as head of immigration.

Cripps Harries Hall has appointed solicitor Nitej Davda as a property dispute resolution associate from a senior associate position with Bircham Dyson Bell.
TLT has appointed partner James Dean from Osborne Clarke, where he was a senior associate. The firm has also taken on Anna Parker as a tax and estate planning associate from Burges Salmon, where she was an associate in the private client and wealth structuring team.

Stuart Farr has joined the dispute resolution partnership in the Birmingham office of Clarke Willmott from Laytons, where he was head of dispute resolution in Manchester.

Nuno Galvão Teles has been elected as managing partner of Portuguese law firm Morais Leitão Galvão Teles Soares da Silva.
Bird & Bird’s Italian office has taken on Federica Pietrogrande as head of corporate restructuring and insolvency from a senior associate post with Milan firm Studio Legale Biscozzi Nobili.
Watson Farley & Williams has appointed corporate partner Gonzalo Aranzabal to its Madrid office. Gonzalo previously practised as a corporate partner at KPMG Abogados.
Germany employment lawyer Prof Georg Annuss is joining Linklaters as a Munich-based partner from German firm Noerr, where he was also a partner.
The Brussels office of K&L Gates has hired Sebastián Romero Melchor as a partner in its food, drugs, medical devices and cosmetics practice. He was founder and managing partner of a boutique firm focused on EU food and nutrition law.

Reed Smith has brought in Edward Shapiro as a partner in the firm’s New York music industry practice. He was formerly a transactional lawyer at Grubman Indursky Shire & Meiselas a boutique entertainment firm.
Crowell & Moring international dispute resolution group head Henry Burnett and Paul Hastings litigation counsel James Berger have both joined the global disputes practice of King & Spalding as partners in New York.
