North

Neil Myerson has appointed Jonathan Hassall and Catherine Simons as a senior associate and associate, respectively. Hassall has joined the commercial litigation practice from Linder Myers, where he was a partner. He specialises in IP disputes and high-value commercial litigation. Simons joins the corporate commercial team from Pinsent Masons’ Manchester office, where she was a solicitor.

QualitySolicitors Lockings has promoted Stephen Dettman to head of residential property services in Hull and Beverley. He was formerly a partner at the firm.

Dickinson Dees has appointed Antonia Simpson as a manager in its investment and pensions team based in Leeds. Simpson joins from jonathanfry, where she was a founding director.

Lancashire firm Marsden Rawsthorn has appointed Ashley Marshall as a wills and probate partner. Marshall joined the team as a trainee in 2005. Legal secretaries Kim Busby and Danielle Leeming have been promoted to paralegals in the family and commercial teams.

Midlands

Birmingham’s Anthony Collins has appointed Ranjit Bassey as property lead in the firm’s social housing team. Bassey joins from Shoosmiths, where he led the social housing team. He specialises in regeneration projects and previously led the in-house social housing property team at Birmingham City Council.

Leicestershire’s Cummins has promoted Phil Pepper to board director. He joined the employment law boutique as a senior associate last year and is the second director, next to founder Mike Cummins.

South

Porter Dodson has promoted Sharon Collier and Kate James to partner. Collier and James have been with Porter Dodson since qualifying and are both members of the private client practice, specialising in wills, probate, tax and trusts. Collier is based in Taunton and James works in Wellington.

Bristol’s TLT has appointed Jon Gill as an associate in the firm’s corporate team. He joins from Eversheds, where he was a senior associate in the corporate team. He specialises in M&A and private equity, and has a particular interest in venture capital and the TMT sector.

Europe

DLA Piper Weiss-Tessbach has appointed Attila Csongrady as a partner in its finance practice in Vienna. He joins from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was counsel.

US

Squire Sanders has appointed partner Barbara Alonso to its financial services practice in Miami. She was previously a partner at Greenberg Traurig. Alonso will focus on corporate and project finance, debt and equity capital markets and bank and broker-dealer regulatory issues.

McDermott Will & Emery has recruited Clare Ranalli as partner in its Chicago health practice. Ranalli joins from Holland & Knight, and is experienced in providing regulatory and transactional advice to a variety of health clients.

Stacy Fox has joined Foley & Lardner as an of counsel in the automotive and energy industry department of its Detroit office. Fox was previously senior vice-president of strategy and general counsel at Sunoco.

Hogan Lovells has hired Gary Veron as a partner in its government regulatory practice in Washington DC. He comes from Sidley Austin, where he was a counsel in the food and drug practice. Veron focuses his practice on food and drug law with an emphasis on the intersection of regulatory law and IP law for pharmaceutical and biotechnology products.

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has hired Rob McKenna, former attorney general of the State of Washington, as a partner and co-chair of its public policy group. McKenna will be based in Seattle.

Debevoise & Plimpton has appointed Douglas Buchanan as counsel and co-head of the firm’s global infrastructure and project finance group. He joins from Canadian firm Davis where he was a senior partner. Buchanan will focus on global project development and project finance in infrastructure and public-private partnerships, natural resources and energy.

William Sturman has joined Covington & Burling’s corporate practice as a partner. He will be based in the New York office after joining from Akin Gump Strauss & Feld, where he was a partner. Sturman will advise private equity fund sponsors and investors on fund formation and regulatory issues.

Cooley has hired Thomas Hopkins and Ian Smith as partners in the firm’s business department. The pair will be based in Los Angeles and both join from Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton. Hopkins joined as a partner in 2001, and co-chaired the firm’s global corporate practice group. Smith joined Sheppard in 2001 and became a partner in 2008.

Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison has hired Alexandra Walsh as a partner in its litigation department from Baker Botts, where she was partner. Based in Washington DC, she will focus on white collar criminal litigation, civil litigation, internal corporate investigations and appellate litigation.

Asia Pacific

Chia Ching Tan has joined Hong Kong firm Howse Williams Bowers as a partner from Reed Smith Richards Butler, where she was a senior associate. Tan has experience in a range of corporate and commercial matters including IPOs, corporate restructurings, acquisition and disposal, general corporate advisory and regulatory compliance.

DFDL has hired Angus Mitchell as managing director of its three Thailand offices in Bangkok, Samui and Phuket. Mitchell, a former Linklaters associate based in Singapore, joins from Canadian firm Bennett Jones, where he was a Calgary-based energy partner. He will also serve as head of the oil and gas division of DFDL’s regional energy, mining and infrastructure practice.
