Move of the week

Andrew Flemming

Hogan Lovells has recruited real estate finance partners Andrew Flemming and Jo Solomon to join its London finance practice. The pair join from Berwin Leighton Paisner, where they were both partners. Flemming’s transactional experience includes advising Barclays Capital on a £660m loan-on-loan to Maybourne Finance while Solomon’s deals include advising on the St. David’s Limited Partnership, a joint venture between Land Securities and Capital Shopping Centres.



Shoosmiths has hired IP solicitor Olly Leyden. Leyden was previously in-house at NBC-Universal and has particular expertise in advising clients in film and television across development, production, financing, sales and distribution. He has worked on licensing deals for well-known titles like Peppa Pig and The Snowman.

Matthew Middleditch

Linklaters has appointed  Middleditch as its new global head of corporate and Sarah Wiggins as global head of client sectors. They will both begin four-year terms from September. Middleditch is currently the firm’s Hong Kong-based head of corporate in Asia. Wiggins is a senior corporate partner and is based in London.

Reed Smith has hired Prajakt Samant as a partner to its energy and natural resources group. Samant joins from McDermott Will & Emery, where he was a partner. His practice focuses primarily on commodity and energy-related transactions and regulatory matters.

Practico has hired costs lawyer James Heawood, who has joined the firm from Kingsley Napley. Heawoodhas considerable expertise advising on costs in mid-to-high value commercial claims.

Ropes & Gray has recruited London partner Monica Gogna, who will join the firm’s global investment funds practice. Gogna joins from Pinsent Masons where she was a partner in its financial services team.  She previously spent seven years at Clifford Chance.

Just Costs Solicitors has appointed Kevin Doolan, formerly head of client relations at Eversheds, as a consultant and non-executive director. Doolan was a partner at Eversheds for 25 years where he was responsible for managing some of the firm’s largest client relationships and also established its online legal services.


Elisabeth Pugh has joined Knights as partner and will head up the Chester firm’s family department. Pugh has particular expertise in divorce and financial settlements.


LCF Law in Bradford has appointed Andrew Langton as head of debt collection. Recruited from Fieldfisher in Manchester, where he held the same role, he has previously worked for and led teams at LDLA, Hammonds, Drydens and Lupton Fawcett.


Neil Morgan has been appointed as a partner with commercial firm Darwin Gray. Morgan was previously a partner with Hugh James where he was head of the property dispute resolution and social housing teams.


Cotty Vivant Marchisio & Lauzeral has hired Pierre Treille who is joining its Paris office as a corporate partner. Pierre is admitted to the Paris and the New York Bars since 2005. Prior to joining Cotty, Pierre worked in the securities practice of Paul Hastings and Shearman & Sterling as an associate.

Mason Hayes & Curran has appointed Michael Doran as a partner in the real estate team. His international and domestic clients include institutions, developers and funds. He was formerly head of real estate at Whitney Moore.

Fieldfisher has hired Anne-Laure-Hélène des Ylouses, Antoine Gabizon and Pascal Squercioni as partners in its Paris office. Des Ylouses is a competition partner and joins from YGMA, a firm she co-founded in 2004. Gabizon joins as a tax partner from UGGC Avocats. Also joining from UGGC is Squercioni. Squercioni has been with UGGC since being admitted to the Paris Bar in 1992, and made partner in 2000.


Davis Polk & Wardwell has hired Meredith Mackey as capital markets counsel in New York. Mackey joins from Goldman Sachs where she worked in the loan negotiations group.

King & Spalding has recruited Samuel Choy as a partner in its tax and employee benefits and executive compensation practices. Choy, who will be based in Atlanta, joins King & Spalding from McKenna Long & Aldridge, where he was also a partner.

Pharma company Astellas has named Tatjana Dragovic as vice-president and regional compliance officer for its Americas region. Dragovic joined Astellas in 2007 as senior corporate attorney and was subsequently promoted to assistant general counsel and then associate general counsel, litigation. She began her career at Sidley Austin in 2000. 

Groupon has appointed Dane Drobny as senior vice-president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Drobny was most recently senior vice-president, general counsel and corporate secretary at retailers Sears Holdings Corporation. Previously, he was a partner at Winston & Strawn.

Middle East

Clyde & Co has hired partner Christopher Jobson, who joins its Abu Dhabi office. Jobson was formerly at Eversheds, where he was the firm’s Middle East chairman.

Latham & Watkins has hired Sami Al-Louzi as a partner in the corporate department. Al-Louzi’s practice focuses primarily on equity capital markets in Saudi Arabia and other markets in the Middle East and on cross-border mergers and acquisitions. He will be based in the Riyadh and Dubai offices and joins from being a partner at Vinson & Elkins.


Sackers has promoted Ralph McClelland to associate director and Anna Copestake, Tom Jackman, Ferdinand Lovett and James Bingham to senior associate.  

Triton Global has promoted three lawyers to partner. Joanne Staphnill, Grant Walker and Steve Oates will all become partners of Triton Legal, currently known as Robin Simon.
