Kim Walker

Move of the Week

Bond Pearce has recruited Kim Walker as a partner in its commercial team. He joins as a partner from Pinsent Masons, where he was head of IP. Walker has just completed a second period of secondment as acting principal commercial lawyer at the John Lewis Partnership, where he led a team of four lawyers providing commercial and IP advice to Waitrose and John Lewis.

London

Davies and Partners has hired two new senior associates – Ian Pettifer in the employment law department and Brian Hession as head of commercial property. Pettifer was head of employment at Tayntons and Hession was at Eversheds in Birmingham.

Rebecca Campbell has joined White & Case as a partner in the firm’s global mining and metals industry group from global resources company BHP Billiton, where she was in-house counsel.

Winckworth Sherwood has strengthened its London real estate teams with the hire of solicitors Mary Ridgeon and James Mackay. Ridgeon was head of low-cost home ownership at Prince Evans and Mackay was a senior associate in Nabarro’s commercial real estate team.

Bird & Bird has added two partners to its international financial services sector group. Michael Brown is a dispute resolution solicitor advocate moving from Jones Day and Martin Sandler focuses on regulatory and transactional work in financial services and was head of UK legal at NYSE Euronext.

Ashurst has appointed Derwin Jenkinson as partner in its London-based securities and derivatives group. Derwin joins from Clifford Chance, where he was a senior associate.

Olswang has strengthened its Asian market offering with the hire of consultant Andrew Halper, who will be based in London. Harper was previously head of China at CMS Cameron McKenna.

Macfarlanes has hired senior solicitor Anne-Marie Ellis to its private client team from Gordon Dadds, where she was a partner. Meanwhile, Charles Gothard is rejoining the private client practice from Speechly Bircham, where he was head of international private client.

Midlands

Global public procurement partner Steven Norris has joined the Birmingham office of Squire Sanders as a partner in its regulatory practice. He was a partner and national head of regulated procurement with DLA Piper.

South

Debenhams Ottaway has hired Patrick McGrath as a commercial partner to lead its business services team. He joins from Bolt Burdon in Islington, where he was a partner.

Scotland

Euan Pirie and Euan Mitchell have left McClure Naismith to join Harper Macleod’s public sector, housing and infrastructure team as partners. The firm has also promoted Heather Calderwood (insurance), David Kerr (litigation) and Katrina Ovenden (real estate) to its partnership. Assistants Iain Baird, Murray Steel, Marina McFaulds and Graeme McNee have been promoted to associates.

Europe

Alexandra Stocki and Anne-Charlotte Le-Bihan have joined Bird & Bird’s Paris office as partners. Stocki joins the firm’s international HR services group from Bredin Prat to focus on employment law. IP lawyer Le-Bihan moves to the international IP group from Gide Loyrette Nouel.

Danish firm Bech-Bruun has increased its partnership with three lateral hires and the promotion of senior associate Michael Honoré. Torben Brøgger, Tina Braad and Per Bjerg Christensen left Holst Law Firm to return to Bech-Bruun, bringing real estate, procurement and public-private companies/partnerships expertise.

Loyens & Loeff has promoted attorney at law Vincent Vroom to the partnership. He is a member of the corporate practice group.

CHSH has elected two managing partners in Albert Birkner and Clemens Hasenauer. They replace Edith Hlawati and Irene Welser, who stood down after their three-year term.

CMS Hasche Sigle has made six partner promotions: Sebastian Becker (corporate/M&A in Düsseldorf); Alexandra Bissels (labour, employment and pensions in Cologne); Gerald Gräfe (commercial in Stuttgart); Nicolai Ritter (real estate and public in Berlin); Nicolas Wiegand, (dispute resolution in Munich); and Jörn Witt (life sciences and IP in Hamburg).

US

Jenner & Block has brought in George Freeman to its New York content, media and entertainment practice as of counsel. He was previously vice-president and assistant general counsel at The New York Times Company.

DLA Piper has brought in Linda Bernhardt as a senior adviser to the California real estate, land use, development and governmental affairs practices. She joins from Greenberg Traurig, where she was co-chair of the South Carolina government affairs practice.

McDermott Will & Emery has hired coporate lawyer Robert Cohen as a partner based in the firm’s New York office. He moves from Greenberg Traurig, where he built a corporate, M&A and financing transactions practice.

K&L Gates has hired two partners in Dallas. Mary Korby joins from Weil Gotshal & Manges and T Gregory Jackson moves from Geary Porter & Donovan.

Asia Pacific

Bingham McCutchen has added two Tokyo lawyers to its partnership. Yukari Murayama was previously at the Japanese FSA’s supervisory co-ordination division and Goh Aizawawas in the Japanese prime minister’s National Policy Unit.

Middle East

Kirsten O’Connell has joined the Dubai office of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher as an international arbitration associate. O’Connell was previously with WilmerHale’s international arbitration group.
