Water industry watchdog Ofwat has appointed former Ofgem legal director Elizabeth Hillman as its first general counsel. She worked for seven years at energy regulator Ofgem as legal director. She moved to Ofgem from energy giant EDF, where she was head of the B2B and upstream legal team.

City firm Rosenblatt Solicitors has hired two new partners. Bruno Fatier joins the financial services department, while Caroline DeLaney sits in the real estate disputes department. Fatier was previously counsel at Clifford Chance in Paris. DeLaney was head of real estate disputes Kingsley Napley and, prior to that, held the same role at CMS Cameron McKenna.

HowardKennedyFsi has hired head of risk and compliance Rebecca Atkinson. Atkinson was previously risk, compliance and quality manager at Barlow Robbins. Prior to that, she worked at the Law Society for five years.

Winston & Strawn has hired Alejandro Garcia. He joins the firm’s London office as a senior associate in the international arbitration department and arrives from Herbert Smith Freehills, where he held the same role.

Mayer Brown has hired Gary Silverman as of counsel. He will join the capital markets team and arrives from Allen & Overy, where he was an associate.

Bristows has recruited partner Louise Eldridge, who joins the corporate team. Eldridge was a corporate partner at HowardKennedyFsi.

Berkeley Law has appointed private client solicitor George Merrylees. Merrylees will focus on advising international private clients with private wealth issues. He was formerly a solicitor at New Quadrant Partners

Paul Weiss has recruited John Satory as counsel in the securities and capital markets group. He was formerly a counsel in the London office of Davis Polk & Wardwell.

 South

Irwin Mitchell has hired associate Jane Longworth for its Southampton office. Longworth comes from Blake Lapthorn, where she was an associate.

 North

Cassell Moore has recruited solicitor Rachel Eley in the wills, trusts and probate team. Eley joins from Lees Solicitors, where she was a solicitor.

Lancashire law firm Vincents Solicitors has appointed Peter Hibbitt as practice manager. He was previously an independent consultant.

Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office has appointed commercial litigation partner Dorrien Peters. Peters moves from DLA Piper, where he was a legal director in the dispute resolution group.

Scotland

Helen Abrams is joining Brodies as an associate in the real estate team. She will be based in the Edinburgh office and was formerly a senior associate at DLA Piper.

 

Europe

In Rome, Gianni Origoni Grippo Cappelli & Partners has promoted Nicola Bonante (employment) and Richard Hamilton (financial markets) to its partnership.

Pacôme Ziegler has joined PLMJ Arbitration as a partner. Ziegler was formerly an associate at Dechert.

Rosario Sapuppo has joined Schoenherr as head of the new Italy desk in the Istanbul office. He was previously of counsel at Gur Law Firm in Istanbul.

 

US

Paul Hastings has recruited two new partners. Naveen Modi has joined the IP practice in Washington DC as a partner. He arrives from Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garrett & Dunner, where he was a partner. Meanwhile, Thomas Barnett has joined the Los Angeles office as special counsel for ediscovery and data science. Barnett comes from Saito Sorenson, where he was a partner.

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has hired Jonathan Lopez, formerly deputy chief of the Department of Justice’s money-laundering and bank integrity unit. He will join the firm’s white-collar practice as a partner.

K&L Gates has hired Thomas Ryan as a partner in its government enforcement practice in Pittsburg. Ryan returns from the Department of Justice, where he served nearly six years as an assistant attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia. 

Reed Smith has hired a three-strong finance team from Wolff Samson. William Goydan, former partner and chair of the securities litigation group at Wolff Samson, joins as a partner. Former partners Kiran Somashekara and John Lukanski join as counsel.

In New York, Montgomery McCracken has added three lawyers to its maritime and transportation practice. Eugene O’Connor and Timothy Semenoro join as partners and Robert O’Connor joins as an associate. All three previously held the same roles at Chalos O’Connor, which has now closed.

 

Asia Pacific

Concord & Partners has added former Squire Sanders Shanghai partner Ni Xudong to its Shanghai office. Ni advises on general corporate matters in China.

Australia

DLA Piper has appointed Peter Jones as a partner in its IP and technology group in Sydney. Jones joins from Gilbert & Tobin where he was a partner in the TMT and project services team. He has a record in advising on major system integration projects, sourcing arrangements, network projects and IT transactions.

Gadens has added Tim Lipscombe as a partner in its banking and finance team in Sydney. Lipscombe joins from Ashurst, where he was a partner for nine years.

Moray & Agnew has hired DLA Piper’s government litigation group head Norman Abrams as a partner in Melbourne. He is particularly known for complex workplace health and safety issues and compliance matters.

 

Offshore

Cains has hired John Rimmer as a trusts consultant. He was a partner in the Isle of Man office of Appleby.

Simon Tibbitts and Gareth Graham have joined 3 Paper Buildings in Bristol. The pair were formerly with Queen Square Chambers in Bristol.
