Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s new senior partner Guy Morton has taken the helm at the magic circle firm with immediate effect following Anthony Salz’s decision to stand down.
Morton, who beat Philip Richards and Graham Nicholson to the top job job last month, took over as senior partner alongside Frankfurt-based co-senior partner Konstantin Mettenheimer at the start of 2006.
Salz, who has been a partner at Freshfields for over 30 years and senior partner for a decade, announced his retirement from the firm last July. For the last five years Salz has had a variety of non-executive roles including most recently at the BBC. It is understood he will retire from the partnership in March.
New chief executive Ted Burke will take over in the spring from incumbent Hugh Crisp. Both Burke and Morton have five-year terms.
