Monckton Chambers has set the bar for other sets to beat after unveiling a 30 per cent jump in turnover to £17.2m at the 2008-09 year-end.
Senior clerk David Hockney said all core practice areas have seen an upturn, with procurement work witnessing the largest growth at 99 per cent and commercial work up by 70 per cent.
“Much of the work has required specialist advocacy for what’s been difficult and complex litigation,” said Hockney. “In turn it’s enabled us to field strong teams for what’s been complex and important litigation in the domestic and European courts.”
Barrister revenues also shot up, by 14 per cent, to £358,000 from £314,000 a year earlier, while chambers contributions fell by two percentage points to 14 per cent.
Monckton is the first set to publish results in what is expected to be a boom year for the bar.
