Morrison & Foerster has added 10 to its partnership in its latest round of promotions.
The US firm more than halved the number made up year-on-year, having promoted 27 in 2007.
Of the promotions, the London office has received one this time round. The firm's US offices received the highest number of new partners with New York, San Francisco and San Diego all receiving two each, while Northern Virginia and Palo Alto received one apiece. In Asia the firm's Tokyo office received one new partner.
Morrison & Foerster chairman Keith Wetmore said: "We've elected an exceptional group of lawyers to the partnership. This year's newly elected partners reflect continued investment in our distinguishing practice strengths and our international reach."
A number of US firms have dramatically reduced partner promotions this year in light of the economic downturn.
Last month The Lawyer reported on Mayer Brown adding 27 to its partnership this year compared to 43 in 2007 (26 November).

10 partners down from 27 !!! It has been a tough year for California and Californian law firms. Next year will be worse. Could more Northern Cal firms wobble in 2009? The partnership play is not looking so attractive these days. Sweat blood to get on the track, become one of a handful to make it, and then find the pay at some these shops is less than a salary elsewhere in private practise or inhouse. And given the record number of CV's floating around in San Fran at the moment, job security is no longer a real justification for sticking it out.
