Mishcon de Reya has acted as the main UK lawyer in the creation of the world's largest business travel agency, in a major deal between part of Paris-based Accor Group with Carlson Travel Group of the US.
Mishcons acted for Wagonlit Travel, the Accor Group subsidiary involved in the 'strategic union' - essentially a joint venture.
The venture has resulted in a network of 4,000 agencies in 125 countries with a London head office and an expected turnover of $11 billion.
Mischon will continue to act as UK adviser after the deal is complete. Its team includes partners Ronald Hooberman and Paul Salmon, tax consultant Brian Slater and Andrew Donovan.
The firm was brought into the deal by US lawyer Paul Barack, partner of Wagon-lit's US attornies Barack, Ferrazzano, Kirschbaum & Perlman.
City firm Fox Williams was UK adviser to Minneapolis-based Carlson, with Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly acting in the US.
Both companies also used in-house counsel in the US and Paris.
The most challenging part of the deal was its international aspect, says Hooberman, who was at one stage in a five-country conference call. "This was quite a co-ordinating exercise," he says.
