The lead singer of Mishcon de Reya’s in-house rock group has jumped ship to Field Fisher Waterhouse, creating an uncertain future for the band.
Thomas Morton joined Field Fisher Waterhouse as an associate in its real estate practice in London this week. He had been at Mishcon since December 2006.
As well as being a member of the property group, Morton fronted Mishcon’s in-house band The Enlightened Tenacitists, which triumphed at 2011’s Law Rocks event – a charity battle of the bands competition for lawyers – and also played at The Lawyer’s annual awards ceremony in 2012 along with Berwin Leighton Paisner’s in-house band Real State.
Morton’s departure leaves a big hole in The Enlightened Tenacitists’ line-up, but the band’s leader – corporate lawyer Andrew Wolfin – told The Lawyer that it would not spell the end for the band.
“Tom’s exceptional musical talents have led to inevitable comparisons both to Stevie Wonder and Beethoven (ie blind and deaf),” said Wolfin. “Tom was an outstanding frontman and his departure is a big loss for us. But the dream is not over for the ETs, we’re currently in the process of regrouping with some exciting new recruits set to join the band: we’re down, but not out.”
The Lawyer was unable to contact Morton and so it remains unclear whether he left the firm because of creative differences.
