Mishcon de Reya has hired the London general manager of alternative resourcing business Axiom in the newly created role of chief strategy officer.
Nick West, a lawyer who previously worked at Lexis Nexis, joined Mishcon yesterday (6 January) as part of the firm’s senior management team.
Axiom is best known as a provider of technology-enabled legal services and consequently West’s new wide-ranging operational role will have a particular focus on knowledge and the use of technology. West will also be tasked with analysing the firm’s working processes across its practices.
Mishcon managing partner Kevin Gold said the new role had been specifically created to help the firm develop its services over the next decade as the legal market continues to change rapidly.
“As part of our 10-year vision Nick will help us to reimagine what the law firm of the future will look like,” said Gold. “He will also focus on improving the day-to-day business management of the firm at a departmental level. A key part of this will be a thorough examination and review of our systems and working practices.”
Last year Mishcon’s revenue surpassed the £100m revenue mark, with turnover rising 12.5 per cent to £110m. The result meant that Mishcon hit its 2016 target of £100m a year ahead of schedule.
Axiom launched in 1999, initially exclusively focusing on providing secondees to in-house teams. It now also handles the outsourcing of legal processes and contracts.
Many of Axiom’s major clients, which include Credit Suisse, Dell, BT and Vodafone rely on legal services it provides that are heavily dependent on technology.
West joined Axiom two years ago during which time the business has raised its profile significantly in the UK and boosted its revenue to around £30m.
Axiom has appointed Sara Morgan, who has been with the business for six years working in a variety of teams, as its new London general manager.
