Mishcon de Reya is to launch a family practice in its New York office after hiring family partner Michael Stutman from US firm Mayerson Stutman Abramowitz.
The firm launched a New York base in January last year with a team of litigators led by former Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton fraud specialist Jim McGuire (18 January 2010).
The move will give Mishcon what is understood to be the first transatlantic family group.
Mishcon managing partner Kevin Gold said: “For some time now we’ve witnessed the increasingly international nature of our clients’ needs, and recognise the growing value of multi-jurisdictional expertise in wealth management.
“Michael’s appointment, with his wealth of experience in family law, will help us to accommodate these needs as we develop our cross-border practice.”
Domestically the firm is perceived to be a leading family practice gaining notoriety for representing Princess Diana in her divorce from Prince Charles (21 April 2008).
The firm said Stutman is a prominent figure at the family bar in the US and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
