Mishcon boosts real estate with BLP raid

Mishcon de Reya has made rare lateral hires out of Berwin Leighton Paisner‘s (BLP) real estate practice, taking a partner and a senior associate.

Commercial property partner James Garton and associate Mark Baker, who both join Mishcon as partners, take the number of former BLP real estate lawyers at Mishcon to six.

Mishcon’s real estate group already boasts ex-BLP partner Daniel Lipman and consultant Geoff Hayhurst, along with former BLP associates John England and Nicola Bishop.

The addition of Garton and Baker brings Mishcon’s real estate practice to a total of 13 partners.

Mishcon head of real estate Nick Doffman said: “Our strategy is one of continued growth. The quality of both the work and high-level recruits over recent years highlight the department’s position in the mid-market.”

Garton and Baker both worked at Nabarro Nathanson before joining BLP together in early 2004.

BLP declined to comment.
