Lisbon-based Miranda Correia Amendoeira & Associados has a new managing partner.
Rui Amendoeira, aged just 37, joined the firm 15 years ago as an associate. He has been in charge of a number of practice groups, most recently oil and gas and natural resources.
Amendoeira replaces founding partner Agostinho Pereira de Miranda, who becomes chairman of the five person board for 2006-08.
Commenting on Amen-doeira's appointment, Pereira de Miranda said: "This is not so much an award as an act of justice."
Miranda specialises in project finance, foreign investment, international arbitration and litigation.
Two-thirds of the firm's 100 lawyers are based in Portugal, with the rest operating from nine locations worldwide, including Macau, Texas and five Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa. 2005 saw rapid growth for the firm, including a merger with Lisbon banking and tax boutique Luis MS Oliveira in September. Miranda plans to grow its Africa practice this year, which already accounts for 60 per cent of turnover.
