The plane was half empty, the restaurants had spare tables and there were fewer people in the exhibition with, for example, a much depleted London stand in terms of exhibitors. However, for those of us that were there, agendas were just as busy and there was just as much rushing around to get from one meeting to the next on time. People were more business-like, the conversations were more direct and there was a definite air of looking forward rather than back. People see the opportunities which exist and are trying to focus on how to take advantage of them. There was far less emphasis on boats and much more emphasis on business. This was a MIPIM where quality triumphed over quantity.

... overall the industry mood is pretty thoughtful not surprisingly but a lot of serious property players there still. We had two very good interesting lunches for clients with a good mix there including from US state dept. We like to introduce and mix clients up who can then do deals. In terms of lawyers the usual suspects. The boats all moored up included lovells, freshfields, norton rose, jones day, but no huge boats in the harbour with helipads as in previous years. No sign of DLA cafe or lawyer beach parties and legal events more low key - more small serious meetings than big parties. For us we've achieved what we wanted seeing our clients out here and meeting contacts. Now heading to marseilles on the 6.30 coastal train beautiful red sunrise. across the med.
