DJ Freeman and Lovells both got a ticking off from Mipim organiser Reed Midem this year after declining to take exhibition stands
After a 10-year run in Mipim's so-called bunker, DJ Freeman went upmarket and hired a plush Cannes penthouse to entertain clients. It then advertised the address on a roadside billboard, breaching Mipim rules by plugging an alternative venue to the Palais des Festivals, which hosts the exhibition, so the firm had to take the ad down. Property partner Jonathan Lewis said: "We're not really competing with the Palais, but it's fair enough." Lovells, which hired a yacht for its party, had an official show up to take photographs. Those with yachts are not allowed to conduct the kind of commercial activities which they could be doing on a stand inside the exhibition.
