Mills & Reeve is to launch a Leeds real estate practice with the hire of partner Simon Sherwood from DAC Beachcroft.
Philip Way, head of Mills & Reeve’s Leeds office, said the move is a step towards making the firm full service in the North and comes after it established insurance teams in both Leeds and Manchester.
Way would not be drawn on further hires, but said Sherwood’s complement of real estate property skills and exposure to landed estates in the health and education sectors reflected the firm’s “very ambitious” growth plans for key sectors in Leeds and Manchester.
Sherwood also brings asset management experience, having acted for a number of major institutional investors with substantial portfolios, as well as advising investors and developers across the primary care sector.
The £69m-turnover firm launched in the two cities in 2007 after taking Addleshaw Goddard’s entire practice, led by David Salter, Way and Nigel Shepherd (19 November 2007).
Keith Hamilton, head of real estate at Mills & Reeve, said: “Simon has a strong track record in real estate investment, which is one of our core sectors, and we look forward to strengthening our expertise even further when he joins the Mills & Reeve team.
“His appointment will further develop our strong client offering in the North of England and demonstrates the firm’s resolute commitment to its 2015 commercial vision in which real estate investment plays a major role.
“Simon’s experience will provide invaluable support to our private wealth, agricultural and healthcare sectors and a number of our other practice areas.”
