Milbank opens in Munich

Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy has scored a huge coup by recruiting Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s global co-head of private equity to open its Munich office.

Peter Nussbaum is expected to join Milbank in June with corporate partner Norbert Rieger, who also provides tax advice, and tax partner Rolph Fuger. Both were made partners in 2000.

The new office is its third European post, adding to London and its small office in Frankfurt. The departures leave Freshfields Munich with seven partners, but overall the firm’s German office has 25 private equity partners.

The group lateral ties in with a number of deals out of London but based in Germany, which have been led by Michael Goroff.
