This year, The Lawyer’s annual ranking of the largest UK law firms by turnover is available as an interactive, digital benchmarking tool. For the first time this will allow you to manipulate each data set against the metrics of your choice.
The research used information provided by online legal information provider Lawtel. The statistics that relate to civil litigation only were obtained for all of The Lawyer's top 100 law firms, but only those with five or more appearances are shown in the chart. An appearance is recorded for a judgment handed down between October 1999 and July 2000. In most cases it is clear whether the appeal was successful, but in a few instances the court has handed down a split decision, with both parties winning elements of their claim.
The outcome of cross-appeals has not been recorded. Where law firms have merged during or since the period in question, the appearances have been grouped under the new name of the firm. For example, the appearances of Hammond Suddards and Edge Ellison appear together, labelled Hammond Suddards Edge.
