Memery Crystal to fight £4m negligence claim

Memery Crystal has been hauled into the High Court by a former property client with a £4m negligence claim against the firm.

The claim was brought by office space provider Citib@se in March last year and centres on advice the firm gave on the wording of Citib@se’s lease in Central London.

The firm is accused of wrongly advising Citib@se that it had to give up the space six years early after new landlords asked it to leave.

Memery Crystal litigation partner Harvey Rands said the claim is “spurious”, which is why the firm has chosen to go to the High Court to defend it.

The firm has instructed Mills & Reeve and Andrew Sutcliffe QC of 3 Verulam Buildings. Citib@se is using West End property firm Freeman Box and 9 Stone Buildings barrister Edward Denehan.

The case started at the High Court last Monday (27 October) and was heard by Sir Donald Rattee.
