Memery Crystal focuses on Africa after strong year
Memery Crystal has had another successful year with turnover rising 14 per cent from £15.1m in 2010-11 to £17.2m.
The growth marked further improvement on its performance in 2010-11, when turnover rose by 21 per cent from £12.5m to £15.1m, demonstrating that the firm has put its recessionary woes behind it.
The London-based firm also continued its reign as the top firm for the number of Aim-listed clients (31 October 2011) and increased its growth in litigation for the third year running.
The news also comes as the firm launches an Africa desk, which aims to build on the firm’s track record of working across 35 African jurisdictions.
The desk is led by finance partner Nick Davis, who has worked on a wide variety of deals across Africa, including asset protection work in Sierra Leone and transactions in a range of other countries such as Ghana, the Ivory Coast and Tanzania. He is supported by Kenyan-born corporate associate Rumit Nanji.
The firm’s chief executive Lesley Gregory, corporate partner Michael Dawes energy partner Sean Rush and disputes partners Jane Marsden and Nicholas Scott, are also assigned to the desk.
Davis has earmarked the Africa Desk as a primary focus for the firm this financial year.
“Last month we formally launched our Africa desk, which will fit in with our corporate and litigation work and will also link well with our growth in natural resources. Our Africa desk will be one of the main focuses for this year,” he said.
“It’s one of the fastest-growing markets in the world, and there are few if any UK law firms who can match the experience and range of legal services we offer Africa-focused clients, particularly in key sectors such as mining and oil and gas.”
