Addleshaw Goddard has elected a new chairman. And she’s a woman.
Litigator Monica Burch, who joined legacy firm Theodore Goddard in 1988 and became a partner 11 years later, has beaten off tough competition to take up the role of chairman of the board (see story).
Including Burch four of the 11 members of the firm’s governance board are female, but just 21 per cent of the partnership is female (see story). And Addleshaws still ranks below the average of 25 per cent of female partners at UK firms (see story).
But having a popular female role model at the helm - and one who has successfully embraced flexible working - should help the slow march towards greater equality and diversity.
Elsewhere, female partner promotions are down at A&O from 40 per cent last year to 17 per cent this (see story). Will the firm’s new part-time working scheme for equity partners help change that (see story)?
