THE UK College of Family Mediators is taking on the Government in a fight for statutory powers to regulate and discipline its members. Liz Walsh, college chief executive, says the Government is showing no sign of giving it "the teeth to enforce" high standards. "This is regrettable and certainly not in the public interest," she says. The Lawyer also understands the Joint Mediation Forum - which includes the UK college, the Centre for Dispute Resolution and Mediation UK - has agreed on the first national code of conduct, and is planning to set up an organisation to represent all mediators.
