McGuireWoods picks up Squire Sanders team for Brussels push

US firm McGuireWoods is expanding its Brussels competition and EU team with four lawyers, including one partner, from Squire Sanders.

Partner Vassilis Akritidis and senior associate Yves Melin, who is joining as a partner, are making the move along with senior counsel Alessandro Nucara and an associate.

The team, led by Akritidis, acts for EU and non-EU companies on international trade and World Trade Organisation law, including litigation and investigations, as well as broad competition law issues.

McGuireWoods’ Brussels managing partner Hubert André-Dumont said the team would work for clients in Brussels and London as well as contributing to US work.

McGuireWoods previously picked up a team from Squire Sanders in 2010 to strengthen its London office, including the firm’s former London managing partner Andrew Visintin (11 May 2010).

Brussels and London are the firm’s only non-US offices, although McGuireWoods recently signed a cooperation agreement to gain a presence in Saudi Arabia (12 March 2013).
