McGrigors buys out Reid Minty

Margaret Taylor and Kit Chellel

National firm McGrigors has bought out West End litigation boutique Reid Minty after the latter advertised itself for sale in The Lawyer.

As reported by The Lawyer (2 June), Reid Minty had been on the lookout for an international or regional UK firm “seeking a modern, profitable and up-and-running London base”.

McGrigors managing partner Richard Masters said that, although the firm had seen the advert, it was already familiar with Reid Minty.

He added: “We’re taking Reid Minty’s entire commercial litigation and real estate business into McGrigors, which includes four partners and two directors.”

In total 18 people have joined McGrigors, with Reid Minty senior partner Andrew Reid joining as a consultant. Reid remains senior partner of Reid Minty’s volume personal injury business.

Reid said he will spend most of his time advising McGrigors on strategic planning for the London litigation practice.

The additions bring McGrigors’ ;London litigation partner count to eight, while the real estate practice has received one new partner.

The firm recently completed a redundancy consultation that saw four real estate fee-earners and three secretaries lose their jobs.

just how much did McGrigor's due diligence reveal about Andrew Reid's personal penchant for litigation?

  • Caveat Emptor!

Let's just hope for their sake that Reid's 'stratgic planning consultancy' isn't disguise for an earn - out provision ! Ask a very well known FTSE 100 outsouring company about that one!
