McDonald’s Restaurants general counsel Julian Hilton-Johnson has been called upon to defend the company at a second Parliament committee in the space of eight months.
Last Tuesday (29 June) Hilton-Johnson gave evidence to a committee from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on food information.
Hilton-Johnson told The Lawyer: “We had a lot to say. We’ve made a lot of changes to our menu, but we also provide a lot of information about our food and we were happy to do that. I suspect we had a lot more to say than many other witnesses, particularly those in the restaurant sector.”
McDonald’s gave evidence to the Health Select Committee on obesity in November last year, and Hilton-Johnson faced an interrogation on the company’s policies. Last week he reprised his role as a committee witness. The Co-op, Tesco, Asda and Whitbread were the other companies that gave evidence.
