McDermott Will & Emery has added a tax practice to its Silicon Valley office by poaching a three-partner team from Fenwick & West
Partners Fred Chilton, Paul Dau and John Ryan and counsel James Garahan will form the core of the new team and take the total tax practice to 165 lawyers. Head of tax Michale Fayhee said: "We're elated that Fred, Jim, Paul and John are expanding our tax presence to Silicon Valley. Our new team's credentials and experience with top high-technology and with other companies, such as Cisco, Amdahl and Sun Microsystems, is a perfect fit." It is a neat bolt-on, as the team covers different areas of a generic tax practice: Dau focuses on the resolution of federal tax disputes, from pre-audit preparation to litigation; Garahan specialises in the US and international tax aspects of acquisitions and joint ventures; Chilton concentrates on complex tax matters; and Ryan advises on the tax aspects of transfer pricing and international restructurings.
