McCanns' man can

The parents of Madeleine McCann may have hired two bigwigs from Kinglsey Napley to advise them on their legal rights now that they are formal suspects, or 'arguidos', but have they made the right choice?Heavyweight partner Michael Caplan QC famously represented Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet and saved him from being extradited to Spain on torture charges. So a big thumbs-up there.

But how about partner Angus McBride? McBride has an excellent record defending footballers (allegedly) behaving badly. He also defended the guide accused - and acquitted - of manslaughter arising from a death on Mount Everest in 2006.

But his recent form has dipped after he failed to keep actor and scriptwriter Chris Langham out of the clink on charges of downloading child pornography.

But delve deeper into his CV and a ray of light appears. McBride was a speaker at The Lawyer Legal Summit 2005 on crisis management and dawn raids. The McCanns should be just fine.
