MBRM signs up former EU ambassador to regulatory team

Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw has taken on the former European Union ambassador to the US Dr Gunter Burghardt for its regulatory team.

Burghardt will join former German polititican Friedrich Merz who started at the US firm in January after a stint as parliamentary leader of the German Christian Democratic Party.

Merz said: "Ambassador Burghardt has played a pivotal role in strengthening the transatlantic partnership between the EU and the United States. His sophisticated understanding of the business needs of transatlantic companies will be invaluable to our clients,"

Prior to his role as ambassador, Burghardt was director general for external relations at the EU and also deputy chief of staff for former European Commission president Jacques Delors.
