MBRM beefs up Cologne with CC hires

Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw (MBRM) is to boost its German insurance practice with the addition of Clifford Chance counsel Ulrike Monnich and associate Michael Marx.

Monnich and Marx, who currently work in Clifford Chance’s Düsseldorf office, are set to join MBRM’s Cologne office on 1 August as counsel and associate respectively.

At MBRM the pair will work alongside Cologne office head Christof Gaudig, who also co-heads the firm’s German corporate practice. According to Gaudig, Monnich’s appointment will be a particular boost to the team, given the level of her international expertise.

Monnich’s area of specialism lies in advising national and international companies on insurance contract and regulatory matters. She also advises insurers in relation to M&A transactions and on structuring conventional and alternative insurance products. In addition, she advises clients on insurance law developments on national and European levels.

Monnich began her career at Bach Langheid in Cologne, joining Clifford Chance in Düsseldorf in 2000 before making counsel in 2005. In addition to her legal work Monnich also teaches insurance supervision law at the University of Mannheim.
