Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw has made a mass raid on Washington DC firm Crowell & Moring with the hire of a nine-partner securities and regulatory group.
Led by Crowell & Moring’s securities, regulation and enforcement chair Pat Conti, the group of partners includes several former Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) lawyers.
Peter White, Crowell & Moring’s co-chair of government investigations and litigation, is also among the nine.
The group joins Mayer Brown’s Washington and New York offices. Of the nine partners, six – Conti, White, Bruce Bettigole, Joseph Goldstein, Richard Morvillo and Jeffrey Robertson – will become members of the litigation practice.
Investment management specialists Kathryn McGrath, Stephanie Monaco and Elizabeth Knoblock will join Mayer Brown’s corporate group.
Kenneth Geller, partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s Washington office, said the team was “exceptional”.
Crowell & Moring chairman John Macleod said: "The hardest thing for them and us throughout this process has been that we genuinely like and respect each other.
"But we are still set to have a record year, even before we include the revenues produced by our Securities Group."
