Joseph Collins was today convicted of criminal fraud in the Refco matter. Mayer Brown is being sued for civil fraud and negligence in the same matter for billions (and way beyond their insurance coverage). If the criminal standard is met, you would have to think the lower civil standard has been met, in which case it’s difficult to see Mayer Brown espacing a massive payout (or worse) for the civil claims.
