Matrix Chambers’ Hugh Tomlinson QC is in court this week leading a privacy action against the Mirror Group on behalf of footballer Rio Ferdinand.
Tomlinson was instructed by Simons Muirhead & Burton partner Martin Soames to lead the claim for Ferdinand.
Reynolds Porter Chamberlain partner Keith Mathieson instructed Gavin Millar QC of Doughty Street Chambers to lead the defence for the newspaper.
It is alleged that a story published by the tabloid in April that revealed an alleged affair the footballer was claimed to have had over a 13-year period was a misuse of private information.
The newspaper will contend that the story was in the public interest and therefore it had a right to run it.
The three-day hearing began yesterday in front of Mr Justice Nicol.
