Matrix to focus on diversity and environment

The set will identify a major project in the community to encourage young people from different backgrounds to consider entering the law.

“We’re most worried about diversity,” said chief executive Lindsay Scott. “It’s about increasing the amount of [young people from] socially disadvantaged and ethnic minority groups who apply to become barristers or to work in chambers.

“By the time people have applied to us it’s often too late. We have to go further back and work with schools to show what kind of things children can do.”

One of a number of ­environmental initiatives being considered is the ­lobbying of courts to accept bundles printed on double-sided paper.

“We want to become the greenest set,” Lindsay added.
