Masons has won its first instruction in Peru as it pushes a strategy targeted at projects in Latin America
The Peruvian government has appointed Masons and technical consultants Currie & Brown to advise on the new airport development and on its regional airports plan. The new international airport is to be built at Cuzco, the former Inca capital, and will replace the city's existing airport as the gateway for tourists to the world-famous Machu Picchu archaeological site. A Masons team, led by Steven Bond and Paulo Falconi, is advising the government's foreign investment and privatisation agency Copri after winning the international tender. Three other UK consortiums are understood to have pitched for the work. Falconi said: "Peru is very attractive, with lots of infrastructure projects in the pipeline; it also presents a good chance to export public-private partnership expertise." Masons will also help Copri promote the project to investors.
