Eversheds has beaten Birmingham rival Martineau Johnson to win work for De Montfort University.
Martineaus has worked as its sole legal adviser since 1988, but this year the corporate services panel opened the position to competitive tender. An Eversheds team covering all legal requirements, and led by chairman of the education group John Hall and client service manager Tony Heath, has been appointed as sole legal adviser for the next three years. Eversheds has a good national practice in education work for colleges and universities. Heath said: "This evidences Eversheds' expertise in the sector and substantiates that the firm is in a pre-eminent position." Martineaus did have the Midlands university market sewn up. The loss of De Montfort is a chink in its armour, but it remains the sole legal adviser to a number of other universities.
